September 21, the specialized site WebMD published the results of a study on the effectiveness in reducing wrinkles around the eyes of an anesthetic gel containing botulinum toxin type A, the same one that the is injected under the name Botox.

This product, formulated by Revance Therapeutics, California, has undergone two trials and the results, promising, report few side effects. Just spread the gel around the eyes and let sit for 30 minutes. It penetrates the skin and “relaxes” the muscles under the skin, for an effect similar to Botox and other cosmetic injectables, as Dysport or Xeomin.

Michael Kane, a researcher and New York plastic surgeon, will present the results Sept. 24 at the annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in Denver, Colorado.

WebMD says that no real comparison between these new injectable gel substances was performed. And another series of tests will be required for its approval by the Food and Drug Administration. If the needles do not scare you, there is a system that aims to reduce to a gesture almost painless injection of Botox. American society BellaNovus recently announced a new line of needles known as “Ouchless Needles”.

Small and disposable, they numb the injection site using a micro-jet freezing. Traditional anesthetic creams are sometimes more than half an hour to act.
